We cannot express how much we LOVE in home sessions! Can you believe how beautiful these three are? Jessi, Max, and “bugs” are pretty much supermodels and shooting inside their gorgeous home was a photographers dream… Getting to work with other photographers that have similar styles is seriously the best. White walls everywhere and tons of warm sunlight spilling through the windows… Josh & Rachel xoxo
From Jessi – It’s funny how inspiration can come in the simplest of ways. I stayed in an adorable Air Bnb last year that had the ‘Lets Stay Home’ print hung in the bedroom and I had an immediate connection to it. I have always been a huge homebody and then you add in the fact that I work from home, it was as if this little quote in a frame knew me. Just like that, the influence of our home begin! Design a home that makes you want to stay home! Simple, classic, cozy, minimal and most importantly – monochrome.
When we started this home buying journey I knew exactly what I wanted. Having purchased a fixer upper last year and putting a lot of time and money into making it feel like home sweet home, this time around we were fortunate enough to design exactly what we wanted with the builder. The palette was simple – white, white, white! A blank slate, so that as seasons or styles changed the canvas was always fresh and clean.
The focus of the design elements were 3 key senses – good light, good smells, good music! As a photographer, I know white is going to bounce all of the beautiful natural light in the room. Since most of my time is spent here at home working, I wanted it to feel like a place I could wake up and instantly feel productive. The light and airy vibes give me the perfect amount of warmth and happiness. To compliment that good light, is of course good smells. Top notch candles, perfumes and lotions are never more than a reach away and fill the air from room to room. Most importantly, good sounds! There’s a line in the movie Almost Famous that basically inspired my collection many many years ago, “I always tell the girls, never take it seriously, if you never take it seriosuly, you never get hurt, you never get hurt, you always have fun, and if you ever get lonely, just go to the record store and visit your friends.” While spending a large majority of my time at home, the record collection is my comfort. I think music is the most powerful gift! Oh, and the second most powerful gift? Coffee.
